Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred says he is still optimistic the 2022 season will start on time on March 31st.
Manfred didn’t give a lot of reasons for that optimism while speaking with reporters at the end of the owners’ meetings Thursday.
He said there is agreement on a universal designated hitter for both leagues and the elimination of draft-pick compensation for free agents who turn down qualifying offers.
The owners and players union are set to meet Saturday for the first time in more than a week.
