Manitowoc County Coroner Curt Green is a proponent of tissue and organ donations upon the death of a loved one. During a recent appearance on WOMT’s Be-My Guest program, Green stated he brings up the tissue option an awful lot.
“What we see is oftentimes people have never had that conversation with maybe their spouse or even their children. And, who has, because it’s a tough one but we still need that answer because it is very helpful and me being a proponent of that it just helps an awful lot of people.”
The coroner admits it’s a very short period of time to adjust to the death of a loved one to making such a major decision to donate their tissue.
“Here you are a loved one and we’re making the notification that your loved one died. Unfortunately, we do bring it up very often at death scenes or when someone has died we’re making the notification.”
Green added, “we certainly don’t pressure them but put it (the option) out there to follow up on it later.”
