The Milwaukee Common Council is expected to approve a $650,000 payout later this month to an unarmed man who was shot by police.
Jerry Smith Junior was 19 years old at the time. He survived but says he still has medical issues connected to the shooting that was captured on the officers’ body cameras.
The district attorney cleared the officers involved of any charges in the August 2017 incident because they had been told Smith had a weapon.
He said he ran from officers because he was afraid of them.
