Friends and family of Jovanni Frausto, the man killed at the Fox River Mall last year were on hand and on Zoom as the shooter was sentenced.
Outagamie County Judge Mark McGinnis sentenced 18-year-old Dezman Ellis to 35-years in prison, followed by 20 years of extended supervision.
This sentence was seen as being lenient by many, as the victim’s mother, Tanya Lopez called Ellis a “waste of space” during her victim impact statement and said that he “deserves life in prison.”
The other victim in the shooting, Colt Lemmers, also took the stand, and told the court that he barely leaves his house anymore because “I don’t have any trust in anybody.”
Emotions continued to boil over as conflicts were reported to have occurred outside the courthouse as well.
