Panamanian authorities say the bodies of two retired Midwest teachers have been recovered after a plane crash last month.
70-year-old Deb Velleman of Waukesha had been living with her husband in a community of snowbirds and ex-pats near Chame, Panama.
She and a retired Illinois teacher were returning from a New Year’s weekend at an island off the coast when their plane had engine trouble and crashed into the ocean.
Velleman’s husband, Anthony, and two others were rescued.
When the U-S Embassy in Panama told the families the American government wasn’t going to help with the search for the bodies, a nonprofit organization called Bruce’s Legacy stepped in.
