A never-before-reached milestone was achieved over the weekend in Wisconsin High School Boys Basketball.
Cuba City’s Jerry Petitgoue won his 1,000th career game Saturday when the Cubans defeated visiting Carmen Northwest of Milwaukee 91-to-69.
Petitgoue is in his 51st season as the head coach of Cuba City after 4 years as head coach at the now-closed Gratiot High School.
As Mark Miller of the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook said, “Let’s put this in perspective, no other boys varsity basketball coach in state history has ever coached 1,000 games much less won 1,000 games.”
A long-time history teacher, Petitgoue retired from the classroom 20 years ago, but now at 81, he remains “razor-sharp and more than willing to adapt his coaching techniques to fill the personnel of his team.”
