“The plan is underway, it’s a good plan, we just need our people to understand now is the time. There’s no need to wait, we’re moving forward.”
Those are the words of Pastor Norval Kock, President of Manitowoc Lutheran High School, as the educational facility on the city’s northwest-side prepares to move forward on their capital campaign, called Building Our Future on Christ.
Kock tells Seehafer News the architect, Somerville of Green Bay, is preparing the final project design.
“We’ll look at that and come up with a new estimate on what they believe the cost will be,” he explained. “After that at some point, sub-contractors are informed of the project, there will be a time when bids are taken. We’ve been talking about a groundbreaking of June 5th.”
As for what’s included in the expansion and its’ timeline, Kock said, “It’s a new gym, a new chapel, and some renovation of existing parts. Usually, that’s about a year, so we’re thinking we’d be done for the beginning of the 2023-’24 school year.”
But, the MLHS President admitted that the finish date may be pushed back because of construction question marks beyond anyone’s control.
He stated renovation work at the school will involve the main office this summer along with new locker rooms.
With fundraising continuing, Kock says they’ve been in touch with a lender.
He also said, “COVID interrupted a lot of our fundraising activities, but the percentage of participants from our base has been relatively small and it’s not due to a lack of interest. It’s just been the different disruptions that have occurred. They know we have a lot of potential…our track record with previous projects is stellar.”
Pastor Kock added, Manitowoc Lutheran has been here for 65-years, and “We’re here to serve anyone who is comfortable and likes what we have to offer.”
