Amanda Kretschmer is in her 6th year as a DNR Warden and currently provides law enforcement in Brown County.
During an appearance this week on WOMT’s Be My Guest program with Lee Douglas, Kretschmer spoke of trapping animals, saying they’ve never reported seeing as many bobcats as this year. “I registered my 9th one on Friday, and a couple other wardens are getting close to double digits as well,” she explained. “I’m not sure if the colder temperatures up north and some earlier snow have been helping, but it’s been pretty cool to see some more bobcats this year.”
Kretschmer also issued a reminder to outdoorsmen that otter and fisher trapping requirements “have changed.” “You don’t have to get those registered in person with a warden,” she said. “Essentially you just have to make sure you have your trapping license, you’ve got your tags, your harvest authorizations, and once you get it, you are registering it by 5:00 PM the next day.”
The DNR warden said they’re also seeing more riders on ATV’s on the ice, but that law has changed. Kretschmer emphasized only the number of people the ATV was manufactured for are allowed on the machine. If it’s for one only the operator can be on the ATV and most of them are manufactured for only one person, not 2 or 3 people that they sometimes see.
