UPDATE 1/27/22 2:26 PM: This is not a public meeting.
The Manitowoc Public School District will continue their conversation regarding student behavior this evening during a meeting of the Ad-Hoc Student Behavior Advisory Board.
The topic has been a major issue this year, with one student even facing criminal charges for an attack on a teacher.
At the December 14th meeting of the Board of Education, Superintendent Mark Holzman shared the data.
He said that, on average, in school years between 2017 and 2019, roughly 187 students were given an out-of-school suspension for just shy of 536 days.
Compare that to what has happened in just the first quarter of this school year, where 92 students have been suspended for a total of 249 days.
He did not mince his words, telling the board that there is a student behavior “crisis” in the MPSD.
The virtual meeting will begin at 6:00 PM
