Since its’ creation in 2001, the Jim Krueger Memorial Scholarship has awarded more than $20,000 to local young people looking to further their music education.
The $1,000 annual scholarship was started to honor the late Jim Krueger who was born and raised in Manitowoc but gained notoriety by touring with several groups nationally including the Dave Mason Band.
In 1976, he wrote and recorded Dave’s biggest hit “We Just Disagree” earning Jim’s second gold album.
Krueger was a self-taught musician starting with a ukulele and an accordion.
He moved back to Manitowoc in 1987 and continued to record and tour until his death in 1993.
The scholarship offered in his name is open to any resident of Manitowoc County who plays a musical instrument or is a vocal musician between the ages of 16-and-22 as of mid-July.
The successful recipient will be invited to perform at Acoustic Fest in Manitowoc on Saturday, July 16th, 2022.
Applications must be postmarked by May 15th and those interested in applying can direct message Jim’s brother, Rich Krueger, for the complete criteria and application.
Rich explains that his brother’s music was recorded by numerous artists including his boyhood idol, Bob Dylan, and Jim Krueger’s music lives on as time passes.
