
A Green Bay-based automotive service center is being fined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Pomp’s Tire Service is under fire after a worker at both the Abbotsford and Savage Minnesota locations died while on the job.
Both individuals suffered fatal injures when they were mounting a tire and it came loose, striking them in the process.
The first incident occurred on July 28th, and the second occurred on August 17th, both in 2021.
OSHA has proposed $14,502 in penalties, however, the second incident is still under investigation by Minnesota OSHA.
According to the US Department of Labor, since 2017, five workers in the Midwest have died in similar circumstances as they serviced vehicle rims or wheels.
OSHA Area Director Robert Bonack in Appleton says “Employers should develop an effective safety and health plan, and they are required to train workers on how to identify hazards and use required protective measures to help ensure their safety.”
