Players and fans from both Kiel and Manitowoc Lutheran took part in a special fundraiser for the Lucas family in Kiel in between the JV and Varsity Girls Basketball games last night.
The family was struck by tragedy last Wednesday when a fire destroyed their home. A pass-the-hat fundraiser occurred with money going to help out the family.
We spoke with Athletic Director Steve Walsh, who said that the fundraiser went well.
“We had a really nice crowd,” he explained. “We had a number of people from the community come out, but we also had people from neighboring communities who came out. That was really nice to see.”
In total, during their Minute to Win It pass the hat fundraiser, they were able to collect around $3,000.
Also, the School District made the decision to donate the admissions fees to the Lucas family.
On the court meanwhile, the host Raiders defeated the Lancers 60-to-49.
Kiel, now 12-and-4 on the season, was led by Emma Adelman with 17 points and Jocelyn April chipped in 11.
MonRae Ermis tallied 15 points for Lutheran, which falls to 10-and-5 overall.
