Those with loved ones in a state prison will have to wait a while to see them in person again.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections has announced that as of yesterday, they have suspended all in-person visits in an attempt to help limit the spread of COVID-19.
Due to the close quarters of a prison, if one inmate were to contract the virus, it is likely that it would spread throughout the rest of the prison.
The DOC is still offering video visitations, while volunteers, contractors, and other non-DOC staff won’t be allowed entry at all.
This does not apply to religious volunteers, but they would be subject to a rapid test to gain entry.
The policy change will be reviewed again in February.
