From a war-torn country to the frigid cold of Green Bay.
Two of the over 100 Afghan refugees taken in by Catholic Charities of Green Bay have opened up about their experience coming to the United States.
Catholic Charities welcomed in media reporters on Friday, but for the safety of the refugees’ families, the men asked that their photos not be taken and that they be referred to as Ali and Abdull.
Both men were living in Kabul when the U.S. withdrew from the country and were able to escape on one of the planes.
Both men still have family in the country, which they are currently working toward getting out.
The biggest challenge in getting that done is the red tape around getting a job.
In order for a refugee to get a job, they need to get their work permit approved by the federal government, which is an issue because they are two of over 182,000 Afghans submitting their paperwork.
We will have more with Ali and Abdull next week, along with the interpreter who is help0ing Catholic Charities.
