After seeing the number of calls to police about gun fire reach a record high, the City of Green Bay has begun an in-depth study on the issue.
The study is being conducted by the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, with the first few visits taking place this week.
While additional police enforcement has succeeded in dropping the violent crime rate in the past, it was only a short-term solution to a long-term problem.
Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis has stated that he is confident this study will help his department implement a more permanent solution.
When he was sworn in late last year, Davis vowed to conduct this study, but the timeline was pushed up when the city experienced seven shootings over a 12-hour span.
