Attorney William “Bill” Gigure is being remembered as a good soul who served his community in a variety of ways.
Gigure died last Friday at the age of 93.
Alan Boeldt reflected on Bill’s impact on the Manitowoc Chiefs semi-pro football team that existed from 1955 to 1976.
“He was a very warm and welcoming soul,” Boeldt said. “[He was] very participatory and would get into conversations that were of greater depth. Where I was the General Manager for four years, he was working with the Board of Directors so we could continue. He played a key role in all of that.”
The Lincoln High School and Marquette University Law School graduate played halfback for the Manitowoc Braves, the forerunner of the Manitowoc Chiefs.
“His playing days were from 1948 to 1950, but then he became very involved with Football Incorporated, the parent organization of the Manitowoc County Chiefs,” Boeldt explained. “He was serving in legal aspects.”
