On a 5-2 vote, the Manitowoc Public School District’s Board of Education has voted to keep their current mask mandate in place.
A discussion was held between Superintendent Mark Holzman and the members of the Board, including Lisa Johnston, who was in favor of keeping the mandate in place.
She explained that a medical expert was at the Ad Hoc COVID-19 Committee meeting last week.
“It was a physician from Aurora, that literally begged us to keep our protocols, and masking mandates,” Johnston stated. “Our healthcare professionals are pleading with us because they are the front line in the hospitals.”
Collin Braunel meanwhile was vocal in his opposition.
“You go to Walmart, everyone is without a mask. You go to school, and everybody has a mask. When they go home, they take those masks off,” Braunel said. “You are not going to solve the world’s problems with a mask.”
The board will bring the matter up again at their February meeting.
