As has been the case since March of 2020, the topic on many parents’ minds is COVID.
For some, they want masks to be required in school, while other feel it should be up to the individuals.
COVID protocols at two area school districts are currently taking two different approaches.

Diane Johnson
Diane Johnson of the Two Rivers School District, and Mark Holzman of the Manitowoc Public School District were each on WOMT’s Be My Guest program, where they revealed information on their policies.
In Two Rivers, as of now, masks are recommended but not required, while in Manitowoc they are required.
Johnson, who is in her first year as Superintendent of the Two Rivers School District, said that the School Board was scheduled to look over their quarantine protocols at their meeting last night.
“Right now, students who have COVID, or if you live in the same household, they are quarantined for 10 days,” Johnson explained during the interview conducted prior to the meeting. “The new CDC guidelines are saying students should be quarantining for five days, as long as they are fever-free for 24 hours without using any fever-reducing medications, and if their symptoms are improving.”
That also goes for adults in the buildings as well.

Mark Holzman
Holzman explained that the School District takes advice from local and state health professionals when determining their protocols, which will be discussed at their Board of Education meeting tonight, along with their masking policy.
“At this time, our district continues to wear masks inside, and our goal is to remain 100% face to face,” Holzman explained. “We continue to see an escalated number of students and staff who are out with COVID related illnesses, the highest, actually, that we have seen.”
Tonight’s MPSD Board meeting is scheduled to be held in the Wilson Middle School Auditorium at 7:00 PM. It will also be streamed live on the MPSD Board of Education YouTube channel.
