The Wisconsin men’s hockey team beat number-16 Providence 3-2 in a shootout Wednesday night to win the Holiday Face-Off at Fiserv Forum.
Brock Caufield and Zach Urdahl scored shootout goals for the Badgers and goaltender Jared Moe stopped five of six Friar attempts to finish with 31 saves.
U-W trailed 2-0 going into the third period before Corson Ceulemans found the back of the net and Mathieu De St. Phalle netted the game-tying goal to force overtime.
The non-conference game will go down as a 2-2 tie, but Wisconsin claimed the tournament championship in the shootout.
The Badgers host Ohio State in a Big Ten series on January 7th and 8th.
