The Manitowoc community gave big the week of Christmas.
Last week, we reported that the Manitowoc Salvation Army was about $30,000 short of their fundraising goal for their annual Red Kettle Campaign, but now that the bells have stopped ringing, we have the final tally.
According to Lt. Jenny Moffitt, over 200 volunteers rang bells for around 2,000 hours to help collect a total of $140,047.82, just barely over their goal.
Moffitt voiced her gratitude in a news release, saying “The Salvation Army is quite active in the Christmas season and we could not do any of it without an ‘army’ of people. Thank you to Manitowoc County for yet again showing off your generous nature!”
Things didn’t quite end on such a jolly note in Sheboygan, where they came in about $35,000 under their $135,000 goal.
