Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley
As we reported yesterday, the Two Rivers Police Department has hired their first-ever K9 Officer, K9 Xanti.
As City Manager Greg Buckley told us, the founding of a K9 Department was a long time coming.
He explained that the Department wanted a K9 in their ranks, but “It’s always been a matter of that doesn’t necessarily fit in the operating budget for the department after it comes to funding the personnel, and normal operating expenses and constraints in the City Budget.”
But thanks to the generosity of the Cool City community, it has finally become a reality.
“First of all the dedication through the action of City Council of a request from a former council member, Jim Taddy, to the Police Department which got the funding rolling,” Buckley explained. “Then a successful fundraising drive in the community, that yielded over $50,000 in donations.”
That money not only went toward the purchase of K9 Xanti and his training but also to the additional equipment needed to have a K9 Department.
Buckley gave kudos to both the Police Department and the community of Two Rivers for “stepping up to help fill the need.”
