Flags across Wisconsin will be flying at half staff today in honor of a longtime Kaukauna Fire Fighter, who died after contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.
Stephen M. Smith was diagnosed with the virus on November 27th and died at the age of 54 on December 20th at a hospital.
Smith worked at the Vandenbroek Kaukauna Fire Department for 28 years, and according to his obituary, “took great pride in the ability to help others.”
His body was carried to Holy Cross Church yesterday, where a visitation was held.
Today was also declared “Stephen Smith Day” by Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson.
