Two individuals were rescued on Pigeon Lake in the Town of Liberty yesterday.
According to Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig, a 31-year-old Chicago woman was walking in the area just before noon, when her dogs ran out onto the ice.
The unidentified woman ran out onto the lake to try to catch the dogs and fell through the ice.
A 32-year-old New Holstein man saw what happened, and attempted to rescue the woman using a kayak, but he also ended up in the water.
The Sheriff’s Department, first responders, and local volunteer fire departments were dispatched to the lake, and everyone involved, including the canines, was rescued.
The victims were transported to a local hospital, where their condition is not known at this time.
Sheriff Hartwig is reminding residents to be careful on any frozen bodies of water since the temperatures in our area have not been below freezing for long stretches of time so far this winter.
