Time is short for the eight people running for Milwaukee mayor.
When former Mayor Tom Barrett resigned it gave them only a little more than two weeks to meet the deadline to collect 1,500 signatures.
They need to do that before January 11th so their names will be on the ballot for the spring primary election.
Normally, candidates would have six weeks to get those nominating petitions signed.
Some of the eight candidates started the work last Thursday when Barrett was sworn in as U-S ambassador to Luxembourg.
The primary is set for February 15th and the new mayor will be chosen at the polls on April 5th.
