A Manitowoc Public School District Board member has received backlash for his comments.
Earlier this week we reported that Board Member Collin Braunel had some safety concerns following the Board meeting on December 14th.
Braunel stated, “I am concerned when We are given a report stating that a two day out-of-school suspension being given for weapons at school. When inquiring about this, I didn’t get a feeling that the superintendent was taking our behavioral issue increases as seriously as they need to be.”
Shortly after the story aired on 107.9 FM WOMT and 97.1 FM WCUB, and was posted on SeehaferNews.com, Board President Dave Nickels sent an email to Braunel, which included a copy of the Board Policy as it relates to Public Expression of Board Members.
Nickels told Seehafer News that “Mr. Braunel and all Board members, when speaking to the media, are expected to follow Board Policy. Mr. Braunel failed to indicate that the opinions expressed were his own and not those of the MPSD Board of Education.”
Nickels also stated that “MPSD Board members are not discouraged from speaking to the media,” and “are not restricted from voicing their opinions.”
