Big changes are coming to the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area in terms of tourism.
As we have previously reported several times, the agreement between the two cities and the Manitowoc Area Visitor and Convention Bureau has disintegrated, leaving both cities now creating their own tourism departments.
While on WOMT’s Be My Guest Program recently, Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels said that the two municipalities will continue to work together.
“Even though we are trying to brand ourselves in our own unique way…I talk to [City Manager] Greg [Buckley], we are still going to market together.” Nickels said.
Nickels said that while the residents here know that the two are separate entities, tourists don’t see the line.
“Two Rivers, I will give them, they have a beautiful beach, but I want to advertise for folks to come here,” Nickels explained. “When they go to that beach, they are going to shop downtown…and stay overnight in Manitowoc.”
In summation, Nickels explained that “Even though we are not going to have that one entity…that doesn’t mean we are divorcing ourselves from the City of Two Rivers.”
