Human trafficking continues to be a problem in our state, and nationwide, but Eastern Wisconsin’s representative in the State Senate is trying to put an end to it.
1st District Senator Andre Jacque has introduced a bill, alongside 83rd Assembly District Representative Chuck Wichgers, which would prohibit adult-entertainment establishments from being owned or operated by a person who has been convicted of certain human trafficking and sex offenses, or was declared a public nuisance.
The duo wrote the bill based on an incident in Dodge County, where the owner of a strip club would allow pimps access to a private room, where they would force young women into performing sexual acts.
In addition, the bill prohibits adult-entertainment establishments from knowingly allowing a violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act or certain obscenity laws on the premises, and requires them to post a human trafficking poster created by the Department of Justice in a prominent location for employees to view.
This proposal is formally supported by the Badger Sheriffs Association, the Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association, and the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association.
