Her family says the 35-year-old mother who died after a dog attack in Bowler was a hero.
Heather Pingel had suffered injuries so severe she lost both her arms.
She was hurt while saving her four-year-old son from the dog that turned its attention to her on December 8th.
The boy, Damion Bernarde, has returned home after receiving about 70 stitches to his leg.
Pingel’s boyfriend returned home to find the dog attacking her – so he shot it to death.
She was taken to a Wausau hospital where she died about a week later.
Authorities say the pit bull had been beaten before it came to live with the couple.
A witness told police the dog had a history of aggressive behavior.
