Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has received unanimous confirmation as the country’s ambassador to Luxembourg by the U-S Senate.
Common Council President Cavalier Johnson will become acting mayor when Barrett formally resigns.
The timing of the transfer is being discussed, but Barrett says he anticipates the change will happen before the end of this year.
He has been Milwaukee’s mayor since 2004.
Luxembourg is a small nation of less than 1,000 square miles and 633,000 people surrounded by Belgium, France, and Germany in western Europe.
