A bill authored by two area legislators has been signed by Governor Tony Evers.
The bill, written by 1st District Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere and 2nd District Assemblyman Shae Sortwell of Two Rivers, promotes clearing of Great Lakes ports and supply chains and encourages efforts to clean and restore beaches.
The measure was supported not only by the DNR but also by officials from Two Rivers and other locally elected and appointed officials.
Sen. Jacque, a member of the Great Lakes Legislative Caucus, said of the bill, “The disposed materials are a valuable asset that coastal communities can reuse to shore up, clean up, and reclaim beach areas.”
Sen. Jacque said similar regulatory reform legislation was enacted in Indiana in 2018 and championed by both parties, with unanimous bipartisan support in both chambers.
