Police officers and firefighters went door-to-door inside a Waukesha condominium telling people they needed to evacuate because the building could collapse.
Fire Chief Steve Howard cited deteriorating structural conditions at the 48-unit Horizon West Condominium building.
Two more nearby buildings were also evacuated.
An independent engineering report detected the problem.
Officials say the Salvation Army of Waukesha has been working with the families to come up with accommodations three weeks before Christmas.
