Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm says a young, overworked assistant made a mistake when he asked for a low bail for the man now accused of killing six people at the Waukesha Christmas Parade.
That assistant’s name hasn’t been released.
Chisholm told the county judicial committee there would be no excuse for seeking a $1,000 bail based on the crimes Darrell Brooks Junior was facing.
Two days after he was released, Brooks allegedly drove his mother’s SUV through the crowd at that parade.
Chisholm says the assistant was dealing with a heavy caseload when the mistake was made.
