The Cities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers will no longer be partnered with the Manitowoc Area Visitor and Convention Bureau.
A major storyline this year has been the negotiations between the two entities and the City of Two Rivers, and now both Cities are moving on.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels told Seehafer News that this relationship dates back to the early 1990s, but the Room Tax Commission decided it was time “to discontinue its relationship with the MAVCB and create a separate department under the Room Tax Commission’s purview, to allocate the Room Tax dollars we receive to its highest and best use.”
Nickels also said that the process of hiring for three positions is now underway, namely for a Director of Tourism, a Destination Marketing Manager, and a Media and Special Events Coordinator.
Nickles said that “Those positions can be found by visiting the City’s website, Manitowoc.org, and clicking “Job Opportunities.”
As far as their relationship with Two Rivers, Nickels said “The City of Manitowoc is still committed to working with the City of Two Rivers, to ensure all of our visitors have a great experience when they are in the area.”
More details on how tourism will be handled are expected to be released sometime in the near future.
