For several years, the water level on Lake Michigan was at a very high level, but this year, that trend has reversed.
The lake level went above average in 2014 and has remained there since, but last year it reached record heights.
In fact, the new record high was set in eight of the twelve months of 2020, but that trend reversed course this year.
The Army Corps of Engineers is reporting that Lake Michigan’s level could drop another two to three inches over the next month, which would still leave it about 2 and a half feet above what is considered normal.
While it’s not quite where it had been in years past, this reduction is expected to help with the erosion and flooding issues experienced all along the Wisconsin Coastline last year.
