Republicans are attacking Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm for the low bail that was set for Darrell Brooks Junior – the S-U-V driver accused of killing six people by driving through the crowd at the Waukesha Christmas Parade.
Assembly Judiciary Chairman Ron Tusler accuses Chisholm of “trying to play defense attorney.”
One G-O-P lawmaker proposed a constitutional amendment this week on bail reform.
Another Republican official is saying care needs to be used in making bail changes.
Winnebago County District Attorney Christian Gossett says changes don’t concern him unless they “are not very thoughtful changes.”
Gossett favors a system where defendants are either locked up or not depending on how dangerous they are determined to be to the community.
