A 63-year-old Appleton man has been sentenced in a Supplemental Security Income Fraud Case.
John Fischer reportedly received more than $73,500 in federal and state SSI benefits between 2009 and 2017 while also knowingly concealing multiple resources from the Social Security Administration.
Fischer had requested probation as his punishment, but was ordered by the court to pay the full restitution for his crimes, and will spend 18 months in prison.
That will be followed by three years of supervised release.
Fischer pleaded guilty, otherwise, he likely could have spent as many as five years in prison, and would have been forced to pay a $250,000 fine.
