Fundraising efforts continue for a sexual assault survivors’ monument in Appleton.
The monument, which would be erected at Ellen Kort Peace Park, is expected to cost around $65,000, and the Sexual Assault Survivors Monument Corporation says they have collected roughly $27,000 thus far.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, roughly 1.2 million Wisconsin adults have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime.
1 out of every 3 women has reported sexual abuse, while 1 out of every 5 men has done the same, with 50% of survivors noting the crime was perpetrated by a former partner.
This monument in Appleton would remind other survivors that they are not alone.
