Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul was in Green Bay yesterday, where he was promoting a series of bills known as “Safer Wisconsin”.
Kaul told those in attendance that these bills will help reduce crime and support strong communities.
The state currently has a $2.5 billion surplus, which Kaul is looking to use $115 million of to invest in public safety.
The money would specifically go toward strengthening community trust and preventing crime, keeping guns out of the hands of people who’ve been shown to be dangerous, addressing substance use disorder and mental health crises, and holding offenders accountable.
It was also noted that around $10 million would go toward the recruitment of police officers, as well as their retention and support.
