A group of concerned citizens gathering at Milwaukee’s Sherman Park says the city needs to come together to stop reckless driving.
Speakers at the Saturday event said they want a more unified effort to end the growing problem. There have been suggestions to follow a strategy called Vision Zero, which has been used in Madison and other cities.
It incorporates road engineering, narrowing lanes, curb extensions, and pedestrian infrastructure. Backers say a timeline needs to be set to achieve zero traffic deaths and injuries. Milwaukee speeding citations through September of this year are said to be about triple the number seen during the same time period last year.
