An Illinois man is going to prison for four years for driving through a holiday parade in Beloit.
40-old Curtis Mertz entered a guilty plea last month to charges of operating while intoxicated, fifth offense, eluding an office, and recklessly endangering safety.
While the parade was being held in 2019, Mertz drove past a squad car and through a barrier while officers tried to stop him.
When he did stop, he refused to follow orders or answer questions.
Instead, he drove into the parade route.
He was taken into custody after driving into a cornfield across the state line.
