The boyfriend of a Manitowoc woman who is accused of attempting to kill him says the situation is not as it was reported.
As previously stated, the police reports reflected that Shanice Peterson admitted to attempting to fire a .45 caliber handgun into the bathroom where Deshawn Belin was located.
She also said that the two were fighting and that she intended on killing Bellin.
However, we received a call from Belin yesterday, who claims that Peterson actually saved his life.
“I tried to attempt suicide that day,” he explained. “I was in and out of consciousness because I had taken two bottles of melatonin. I heard her using the gun. From my recollection, because she had seen me in the bathroom before she got the gun, she was trying to use the gun to blow the [locked] doorknob off to save my life.”
Bellin explained that Peterson has been diagnosed as being manic bipolar, and was having an episode, which is why she had thrown things around the home.
“I just want to try to get help for her, because she is in and out of it,” Bellin elaborated. “I don’t know what’s going on with her case because I guess they need to keep separate on us…She needs to have a psych eval done.”
Bellin also told Seehafer News that he did not give a statement to police, because they told him it wasn’t necessary because she admitted fault.
We spoke with Manitowoc Police Chief Nick Reimer about this new information, and he explained that the information that he has can neither confirm nor deny the validity of Bellin’s side of the story.
Peterson is due back in court for her preliminary hearing next Wednesday (November 10th).
