Rutgers coach Greg Schiano calls the Wisconsin Badgers “one of the hottest teams in the Big Ten.”
A win over Illinois Saturday got the Scarlet Knights back to the .500 mark at 4-4.
Wisconsin is riding a four-game winning streak as they travel to New Jersey. Schiano is all too aware that the Badgers bring with them the number-one defense in the country.
He points out that the offense is “very big and physical,” and quarterback Graham Mertz “has a big arm.”
He says the Badgers are well-coached and present “quite a challenge.”
Schiano is especially worried about true 240-pound true freshman running back Braelon Allen.
Also, the unranked Badgers are surprisingly listed on the first College Football Playoff rankings that were released Tuesday night.
Wisconsin checks in at number-21 with its record of five-and-three – just behind number-20 Minnesota and just ahead of number-22 Iowa.
What isn’t a surprise is seeing the Georgia Bulldogs at number one.
They are followed by Alabama, Michigan State, and Oregon. Even though Penn State beat Wisconsin in the season opener, the Nittany Lions didn’t make the first listing.
