As president of baseball operations, the 36-year-old Stearns is building quite a resume – and it has caught the attention of the New York Mets.
The Mets are expected to ask the Brewers for permission to talk to Stearns about their need for a team president.
Stearns is under contract in Milwaukee through next year.
One suggestion from the New York media is that the Mets might offer a trade: one or more players for Stearns, who grew up in Manhattan and was a Mets fan from childhood.
Stearns has been with Milwaukee for six years.
