The experts knew the Brewers’ weakness was offense entering the National League Division Series – they just didn’t know how weak.
The 3-1 loss to Atlanta exposed a lineup that went scoreless for 22 straight innings and produced only six runs in four games.
Milwaukee’s tremendous pitching wasn’t enough to overcome that lack of production.
Hitters struck out 42 times in four games and went oh-for-20 with runners in scoring position.
The Brewers’ best hitters – Christian Yelich, Kolten Wong and Avisail Garcia – were a combined six-for-42, good for a .143 batting average.
The offseason will be dedicated to finding another hitter or two that Milwaukee can afford to add to the lineup.
It would be a big help if Yelich returned to his production levels in 2018 and 2019.
