The Kenosha police officer who shot Jacob Blake last year will not face federal civil rights charges in the case.
The US Department of Justice says investigators have not found sufficient evidence to show officer Rusty Sheskey used “excessive force.”
The DOJ said in a statement, “Insufficient evidence exists to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the KPD officer willfully violated the federal criminal civil rights statutes.”
Blake was shot in the back seven times by Shesky as he was holding onto the back of Blake’s shirt.
Police said they believed Blake was reaching for a knife in his vehicle just before the shooting.
Blake was left paralyzed.
The Kenosha police shooting prompted major protests in August of 2020.
