
A Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Deputy was rear-ended while monitoring traffic on I-43.
According to a release from the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, the 23-year-old Deputy was parked in the median turnaround of I-43 north of Highway 310 just after 2:30 Sunday morning (October 10th) when he was struck from behind.
The other vehicle was being driven by an unnamed 41-year-old Francis Creek resident.
The civilian had to be flown to BayCare Hospital by ThedaStar Helicopter to be treated for what were termed severe life-threatening injuries, while the Deputy was transported by Ambulance to the same Green Bay Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the second vehicle was also charged with OWI Causing Injury.
The State Patrol has taken the lead on the investigation, and the names of those involved have not yet been released.
