The news of a woman being attacked while walking with her four-week-old baby on the East River Trail has many people who use the trail on edge.
One woman, who lives near the trail, called the attack “bone-chilling” and is calling on the community to help the family.
Laura Rabas set up a GoFundMe page, where people can donate to aid the family involved.
The family was made aware of the fundraising effort and is appreciative of the support.
Another woman who lives close to the trail is also calling for the formation of a Neighborhood Watch program, to make sure nothing like this happens at the park again.
In a written statement, Carissa Nusbaum said, “By forming a Neighborhood Watch, we can get to know our neighbors and support each other to renew this sense of safety.”
