A Madison man accused of spitting on an Asian-American UW student is facing a hate crime charge.
UW Madison police say 37-year-old Morgan Kroll spat directly in the face of the student and made statements about COVID-19 on September 15th. The alleged victim told officers that she felt directly targeted due to her race and appearance.
Kroll made his first court appearance Thursday for disorderly conduct with a hate crime enhancer and two counts of bail jumping. He is also banned from the campus. Security camera video helped investigators identify Kroll.
UW-Madison said that it takes all hate and bias incidents very seriously.
