A woman in Manitowoc is looking to get two possibly three members of the Manitowoc Public School District Board of Education recalled.
During an exclusive interview on WOMT’s Jim and Rick Show, Jeanette Deschene explained why she is calling for the recall of Meredith Sauer and Dave Nickels, and possibly Lisa Johnson.
“Our School Board has abdicated their voting rights to our superintendent during a time that we needed their leadership the most,” she explained. “They provided the Superintendent with more control and less accountability. This is a dereliction of duty. They have ignored significant issues and concerns brought forth by large groups of parents.”
She went on to say that these Board members “put their political agenda above the educational need of our children and they failed to represent the parents and taxpayers of this district. Our children look to us for direction and leadership. As parents, we believe that all of our children deserve an excellent fundamental education, and we have people on the school board who are failing to provide that through their lack of risk assessment and protocols.”
Deschene also pointed to the masking mandates, which she said affects students’ education, and in her words “unsuccessful” COVID-19 protocols.
“We have students that were sent home from Lincoln High School to quarantine within the first week of school. As of right now, I believe it still stands, that they have no educational resources during that 10-day period. It’s a failure to our students, it’s a failure to our families, and it’s a failure to our community.”
