Human remains were found at a state park in Calumet County.
According to the Calumet County Sheriff’s Department, two hikers were making their way through High Cliff State Park in the Village of Sherwood along Lake Winnebago when they found the remains.
County officials were called in, along with the Medical Examiner and an anthropologist.
It is estimated that the remains had been there for several months, and authorities are looking into any possible nearby burial grounds.
At this time it is not clear how the remains got to the park, as they were found in a somewhat secluded area, however, people did hike nearby somewhat frequently.
That portion of the park has been closed off as the investigation continues.
